Despite being only about 45 mins from Dublin's city centre, Dunboyne Castle Hotel and Spa feels a million miles away from busy city living and all the stress that comes with it. The first thing that you notice about Dunboyne Castle is the space. The gardens as you drive up open up to give you a view of the hotel across a lovely green lawn. The lobby is airy, spacious and filled with lovely squashy couches, and the rooms are incredibly open with big windows to fill them with light.
Opened in 2006, the hotel is the former home of the Lords of Dunboyne which has been restored and extended to make the hotel which has 145 rooms and four suites, as well as the recently opened Mews and apartments. The Mews are a selection of luxury apartments built around the original courtyard, available for rent for small groups or families. The apartments on the other hand are located in a new building and are also available for rent with full hotel service included. Bedrooms in the hotel itself, as I said before, are very spacious and very well kept. The bathroom has a separate bath and shower so there's also plenty of space in the bathroom.
In the hotel there is The Ivy Brasserie restaurant for a more formal meal or occasion and requires a reservation. The Sadlier Bar has a more relaxed atmosphere and opens for lunch and dinner with different specials every day. The Terrace Lounge just off the lobby is the perfect place for a relaxing cup of coffee before dinner or after a day out while the Cellar bar is the perfect place to spend an evening in a traditional Irish pub. Wherever you choose to spend your time in the hotel, staff are friendly and always happy to help and the menus in the bar and restaurant certainly have something for everyone. For those dining in the Sadlier Bar, the Dunboyne burger is highly recommended.
Dunboyne Castle's main attractions are it's extensive conference facilities and it's indulgent spa. The hotel has a conference centre as well as several meeting rooms and a 24 hour business centre. It has teleconferencing facilities and WI-FI and broadband in every meeting room and it's 21 acres of grounds can also be used foe team building exercises.
Seoid Spa is perhaps the hotel's most impressive aspect. It is the perfect location for a spa break, with spa staff dedicated to helping you to really get away from it all, especially for mums since it's a child-free zone! All guests at the hotel can avail of the hydrotherapy pool located in the spa, as well as sauna and steam room facilities. The pool is constantly kept at a warm temperature which may seem a little frivolous in these eco-panic days, but fear not, the hotel generates it's own power and last year saved 376 tonnes of carbon emissions, so it can afford to be a little frivolous. The spa has a huge range of therapies for both men and women in a building which covers three floors and has 18 luxurious treatment rooms, for individuals and couples. The spa also has the Citrus Bar located beside the pool where you can get a tasty smoothie or healthy snack while you chill out.
