Visited on Easter bank holiday monday - absolutely great fun and don't know anywhere else like it in the country! The water park is ideal for children - we visited with our 2 year old son and also a 14 year old member of the family. Our 2 year old stayed on the same small water slide for the duration, however the 14year old explored all the other slides and features and thought it was great fun - said he would definetly bring his friends along.

We both went on the 'Boomerang' which sends you through a chute on a double rubber dingy and then down a water slide where your momentum going down sends you up a water wall on the other side, where you then fall backwards at high speed to the pool - absolutely great craic!

There's also the 'Superbowl' (see profile pictures for funtasia) which is a bit tamer but a great fun experience which again sees you going down a chute and emerging into a huge bowl where you skim around the inside rim and then gradually fall down to the centre, where you're sucked down through an exit chute to the main pool below.

These were unique and really good fun and are a huge hit with the kids, as well as mams and dads!. They are very popular and it doesn't take long for queues to form up the stair case. It's worth the wait though!

Watch out for the giant pirates head which fills with water and then spills over sending a torrent of water down on top of those gathered below - it can knock you over so watch out but you can't help going back to get under it again!

If either mam or dad want to sit out the water area, there's a seating area overlooking the water slides where you can grab a coffee and read the paper.

The changing areas were absolutely spotless so well done to Funtasia on this and the staff were very helpful. Once outside in the main areas, there is plenty to do with amusements (there are change machines throughout), bowling and also eating area serving drinks, chips, hot bogs, burgers, chicken nuggets etc. There's also 2 children's play areas, roller skating and crazy golf and absolutely hundreds of amusements and interactive games. Check with Funtasia about charges for some facilities such as play areas, roller staking etc. There's also simulator machines, wall climbing, driving games and lots, lots more.

A unique aspect of Funtasia is the skywalk - where older children can get harnessed up and then do a suspended obstacle course about 50/60 feet above the main hall. There's nothing else like it in Ireland! Great to watch them going around and it's really well done, safe and secure and a great experience overall. When the course is complete, they get to do the parachute jump - jumping down to the ground from about 50ft - on harnesses of course!

If you're thinking of opening a play centre along the East coast, then don't - Funtasia have it wrapped up!!

Good Points
Unique water fun park - don't know anywhere else like it
Staff very helpful, even when under pressure on bank holiday Monday!
Excellent range of extertainment and amusements
Cleanliness in changing area was excellent, toilets in main hall good also

Just a thought...
No pool for swimming, just water slides and obstacles
Thought water was 'cool' at first but it soon passes :)

DayOut.ie Tip
Get there early as it does get busy - we arrived at about 11am on a bank holiday Monday and there was no queue.

Latest comments:

  • this place was such a let down, we brought our 3 year old, so for 20 odd euro the only thing he could play with was this slide which he liked, but after 15-20 minutes we had to go as its freezing there, no where to swim and get warm like the nac.. complete ripoff

  • went to funtasia with my sister and six children ranging in age from 7 to 17 - each and every one of us had a brilliant time - stayed in waterpark for 4 hours!! only complaint was the ladies toilets were not too fragrant!! Busier than other times we have been but the queues moved quickly and the staff were friendly, good-humoured and helpful. would definitely recommend it.

  • Parents Beware!!! On Thursday (2/7/09) being a dull rainy afternoon I decided to take two of my children and three of their friends to Funtazia Water Park in Drogheda. Having been regular visitors during last summer’s dull ,rainy days I was shocked and amazed to discover signs informing me that as and from 28th June spectators were no longer allowed into “swimming area” and that children under 12 were not allowed in unless they were supervised. Wondering how this was going to work out, as I was not intending to swim with them and so had no swimsuit with me, and as before had intended to keep a close eye on my charges from the viewing/sitting dock upstairs within the pool area. When I enquired, I was told I could go in if I paid €11 the same price as each of the children’s admission prices. Again I explained ,that with no dis-respect to Funtazias Lifeguards, I didn’t want to use the water slides etc.etc, I just wanted to sit and keep an eye on my children –as I had done all last summer. But to no avail-I was told to pay up or go!!!Shame on Funtazia for ripping off parents, during the summer holidays- especially in this economic climate!!!!!Parents beware and don’t be caught out by this shameful act!!

  • Went to the waterpark on Monday 6th July. I was really impressed. Cost was €11 per person to stay as long as you like. We stayed about 2 and a half hours. My boys age 8 and 10 had a fantastic time as they had the confidence to explore alone and then meet up to go on the big slides together. It is a very large complex and you can easily get separated but that didn't bother us. It was warm enough and theres a jacuzzi for over 16's. If you are attending with a baby/toddler and another child I would recommend 2 adults be present (one to stay with the baby and the other to keep the older child company on the big slides). I will definitely be going back again.
