Athenry Castle
Athenry Castle in Galway is steeped in history and can trace its origins back to 1249..Maintained by the Office of Public Works (OPW) tours are available giving vistors some insight into the Castle's founder Meiller de Bermingham and also the history of the Athenry area during this period. The castle has been renovated and restored over the centuries and provides a historical example of castle building works across several periods in Irish history.
