Aughnanure Castle
Aughnanure Castle in Galway take its name from the old Gaelic Achadh na nIubhar - the field of yews. Situated close to the river Drimeen on the picturesque shore of Loug Corrib, the castle can trace its origin back to the middle ages circa 1500. Steeped in history and a key attraction in Oughterard Galway, Aughnanure Castle is open to the public with a tour lasting approx. 45 minutes. Access to certain parts of the castle and tour is restricted for wheelchair users so please phone ahead for details. The tour can accommodate up to 20 in a group and admission is approx €3.00 per person. The castle tour takes visitors through what was once the main banquet hall, watch tower and castle bastions.
