Birr Castle Demesne
Birr Castle Demesne in Offaly boasts award winning gardens and over 50 hectares or parkland, providing a perfect outdoor setting for walking and family days out. Ireland's Historic Science Centre is located on the grounds as well as ‘leviathan', Ireland's giant telescope which was established by the third Earl of Rosse in the 1840's. Fourteen successive generations of the Parsons family have lived at the castle and visitors can enjoy and explore numerous historical facts about the family over the years. The castle and grounds are open all year round.
