Carrickfergus Castle
Carrickfergus Castle, a Norman castle in Northern Ireland remains one of the best preserved medieval structures in the whole of Ireland. So sharpen your long sword, strap on some chainmail and discover that there is so much more on offer here than just a history lesson. Tours around the castle are self-guiding with information boards dotted around the Castle allowing you to explore this historic monument at your own pace whilst taking in all the history of the castle. From the more prolific characters from the castle's history like the Norman knight, John de Courcy and his wife Lady Affreca to the guards keeping their post, the various life size models in the castles will help to bring your tour to life.Information booklets with maps are also available from the Visitor Centre, which is located at the entrance to the Castle. Guided tours of the Castle are also available but pre-booking is advisable.Different events run through the year so why not see how you would have fared in 'ye olde times' with the Adult Medieval Knight Classes (Over 18's only), get to grips with the Archery Demonstrations & Have-a-Go sessions or just drop down for the Lughnasa Fair to sample some traditional local crafts and food.
