The centrepiece of Donegal Town is without a doubt O'Donnell's Castle better known as Donegal Castle located by the banks of the river Eske. With extensive 17th century additions by Sir Basil Brooke, this is one attraction you won't want out miss out on. The castle was built by by the O'Donnell chieftain in the 15th century and is now fully furnished elegantly with Persian rugs, French tapestries and much more. Throughout the castle, visitors can find information panels, which explain the history of the various castle owners, from the O' Donnell chieftains right up to the Brooke family. The Tower House of the castle has been carefully restored to its former glory. Excellent guided tours take you around the rooms of the castle, which have been presented to outline the different styles and times of its two sets of previous owners.Guided tours are available, with guide books in English, Irish, French, German, Italian and Spanish. There is limited access for people with disabilities to the ground floor.
