Arigna Mining Experience
Arigna Mining Experience offers a unique underground day out tour in Roscommon in what was Ireland’s last working coal mine and also includes a heritage centre paying tribute to 400 years of mining history in Arigna Valley. An ex-miner is your tour guide on a unique mine tour, sometimes through narrow passage ways giving you real insight into what it was like to work under dark, labour intensive conditions. The tour is approx. 45 minutes in duration and lighting and sound effects throughout the mine add to the reality of the tour experience.
Stroll through our exhibition area which traces 400 years of mining history of the area. There are many mining exhibits on display and an audio visual presentation gives the visitor further insight.
A coffee shop offers respite after the tour and boasts breathtaking views of the Roscommon countryside. Browse the souvenir shop with its range of unique gifts. Proceeds go to the continued promotion and preservation of this unique centre.

Visited recently. Top class tour - guide was ex miner and was both knowledgeable and interesting. Would recommend it to anyone.
Visited the mining experience, excellent attraction. Ex-miners give the tour so they are very knowledgeable and interesting. Its fantastic to see an old mine having a new use. Views are amazing and its very close to Kilronan castle great for something to eat after a day in the mine!!
This was a surprisingly entertaining tour. I must be getting old, for when I was in school, we were taught that Arigna was Ireland's only coal mine. now its a museum Accompanied by one of the former miners, we get to see where the mine and the seam. Had ball, but bring a jumper, its cold down there!!
