Galway United F.C. was founded as Galway Rovers in the Claddagh district of Galway in 1937. Galway was first represented in the League of Ireland in 1977, when Galway Rovers F.C. were elected to the league. The club changed its name to Galway United in 1982. Sean Connor was appointed manager in 2010.
