Black Castle
The village of Leighlinbridge developed at this strategic crossing on the River Barrow, defended by the Black Castle. The first castle was built in 1181 by Hugh de Lacy to defend the crossing, and the present castle was built in the mis-sixteenth century by Sir Edward Bellingham.
